Summary

Hedgehog & Potash Mountain (join us for one or both)

Join us for a hike up Hedgehog Mountain.  Afterward, if you care to join us,  we’ll hike Potash Mountain.  Both mountains are on the 52 with a View list.

We’ll hike Hedgehog first then drive 0.6 miles west on the Kancamagus Highway (to park in a small area along the road). Access to Potash Mountain is via a logging road (this maneuver will allow us to bypass the Downs Brook crossing - which might be running high).

Hedgehog -

Start Time 10 am

Approximate Length:  5 mile loop

Approximate Elevation Gain: 1400 feet

Potash -

Start Time  - approximately 2:30 pm, depending on hiking speed, lunch time, trail conditions of prior hike.

Approximate Length:  4 mile loop

Approximate Elevation Gain: 1400 feet.

This hike is meant as a positive experience, so please leave discussions about politics or negative events at home. Enjoy the moment with nature and friends.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

The trail is located off the south side of Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112) at the Downes Brook Trail parking lot which is located across the road from the WMNF Passaconaway Campground.

Heading east on Kancamagus Highway:

  • Passaconaway Campground will be on the left and the Downes Brook parking area on the right. This is about 22 miles east of the junction of Rt. 112 with I-93 in Lincoln.

  • If you see Bear Notch Road on the left, then you have gone about two miles too far.

Heading west on Kancamagus Highway:

  • Passaconaway Campground will be on the right and the Downes Brook parking area on the left. This is about 14 miles west of the junction of Rt. 112 with Rt. 16 in Conway.

  • Passaconaway Campground is about two miles west of Bear Notch Road also on the right.

ignore the last statement. We will start at 10AM since we have to drop off the dogs at daycare first.

Jim caught an error on my post. Start time is 9AM, but the description stated 10AM. This is what happens when not careful with reposting a hike. Anyway, start time is 9AM.
