Summary

Weekday Hike series: Dorr Mountain Hike – Acadia National Park

Join us as we hike Dorr Mountain via the ladder trail and returning via the Dorr South Ridge trail. (NOTE: no national park pass required)

The ascent features stone stairs, iron rung assists and iron rung ladders. At 1,249 feet Dorr is the 3rd highest peak in Acadia. The summit offers stunning views of Mt Desert Narrows to the east and Cadillac Mountain to the west.

OUR HIKE - We’ll start at the Tarn and cross over to the ladder trail bypassing the intersections of both Kane Path and Schiff Path. At a bit over 1 mile we will reach the summit. We’ll descend via the Dorr South Ridge Trail – at roughly 1.2 miles we’ll take a left on to the Canon Brook Trail. After 1 mile will reach the point at which we started.

Start Time: 9:30 am

Elevation gain: 1131 feet

Distance: 3.4 miles

Hike time: 2 hours max

Dress in layers. Proper footwear and traction. Bring lunch. We can consider going to Chocolat in Bar Harbor afterwards for  hot beverages and/or baked goodies

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

DIRECTIONS:

Take route 3 east thru Bar Harbor. Area to park is just south of The Tarn (a shallow, weedy pond) – parking is on the side of route 3.
