Summary

A fun work day rejuvenating our pollinator garden that has turned into weeds and grass!

We have a grass and weed problem with our pollinator garden! It was in the soil we put down. We must remove the roots of the weeds and grasses as much as possible.

The pollinator garden is so overrun with weeds and grasses, we must do a very shallow rototill, just enough to turn over the soil over and under before seeding. We must also try to pull out as much weeds and grasses as possible. We must expose as much soil as possible to give the new seeding of wildflowers a good chance to overrun the weeds and grasses.

We will be seeding with Vermont Wildflower Farm’s “Favorite Meadow Mix” which is 60% native perennials and 40% annuals. We are doing the annuals again to help out with competing with the weeds. A fall planting gives the wildflowers a head start over the weeds next spring!

We will be renting a rototiller and take turns turning over the soil. If you have one of these, please bring it to help us get this task completed. As the soil is being turned over, we could use help with pulling the weeds and loose grasses, putting them in a wheelbarrow, and getting rid of them. Please bring work gloves and a wheelbarrow if you have one. The final step will be to spread the wildflower seed so if you have a seed spreader, please bring it.

We are starting at 10AM and probably finish around 5PM. If you can come for just a couple of hours during this time, that’s fine too. The more hands the better! Members from another group, Pemi Valley Hikers will be helping us.

Depending on how much time you want to spend, bring lunch, snacks and water.
