There were no complaints regarding the weather. It was simply perfect for a moderate hike on the first official day of summer. The group gathered as planned at Miller State located off RT 101 in Peterborough. We were a small group of seven with two people who had signed up for the event pulling a no show.
As planned, we began the ascent via the Wapack trail which is a bit challenging when first starting out but certainly manageable. Upon reaching the summit we took a break and had lunch at one of the picnic tables set up near the base of the fire tower. Climbing the top of the fire tower provided a breath taking panoramic view of the many surrounding mountain peaks which included clear visibility of the Boston city skyscrapers 55 miles away.
After our lunch break we descended via the Marion Davis trail. Upon rarriving back to the parking lot some of us decided to drive to nearby Connolly's dairy farm in Temple to enjoy some fresh homemade ice cream where we met an intriguing gasoline can sniffing young heifer we affectionately named Clarabell.
In summary, the weather was absolutely awesome with plenty of sunshine and no humidity coupled with the welcome absence of any pesky flying insects. It was a fun filled afternoon excusion where new friendships were made. You simply cannot ask for anything better. Thanks to all who made this trip a success.
Cheers,
