Join me on this moderate hike to West Rattlesnake Mountain (1243’) followed by East Rattlesnake (1297’) and then a 2.7 mile walk around Five Finger Point. Five Finger Point has several beaches, one of which will be our lunch spot (bring your lunch). The steepest part of this hike (the reason for classifying this hike as moderate) is the 0.5 mi climb to the top of the first peak The 2 loop hikes should take about 3 hours for walking with an additional 1 hour for lunch and other breaks.
This hike is very popular, but we will probably see no crowds on a Wednesday. Most people go only to West Rattlesnake, where we are most likely to see people. Both West and East Rattlesnake Mountains have excellent views of Squam Lake, and we should (might) have excellent fall foliage. Five Finger Point is a peninsula in Squam Lake with several views of the lake from beaches.
Bring your lunch, which we will eat on a beach on Five Finger Point. Also bring bug spray, sunscreen, rain gear (just in case).
Hike will be canceled for inclement weather.
We will meet in a trailhead parking area on Pinehurst Road (note that this is NOT the main parking area for the Rattlesnake Mountains on Rte 113). From the intersection of Rte 3 and Rte 113 in Holderness, take 113 east for 5 miles. Turn right on Pinehurst Rd and go 0.9 miles to parking area. You can park on side of road (but don’t go beyond the sign telling you not to drive past this point); there is also a parking area near there on the right.
