SUMMARY:

Join us for a kayak trip on the West River in Brattleboro!  Although this is part of the GO25 events, anyone in the area who wants to join us is welcome.  We will leave MountainSide around 9:45 am to arrive at Vermont Canoe Touring Center when they open at 10am.  Their address is 451 Putney Rd, Brattleboro, VT 05301 if you want to meet us there.  They have a small parking lot, but there is additional parking across the street; just be mindful that you are not parking in spots for one of the local businesses or the restaurant, The Marina.  At this lot across the street, there is a place to drop in a kayak if you are bringing your own.

The rates, as posted on their website, are 1 hour for $20, 2 hours for $30, and 4 hours for $40, which does not include a 7% sales tax.  They accept credit cards, cash, check, and Apple Pay.  They do not take reservations, but they have a large inventory of boats, so getting one shouldn’t be an issue.  We will likely do 2 hours, finding a place to grab lunch in Brattleboro after.  Below is a description of the rivers from the Vermont Canoe Touring Center site—I hope you can join us!

Description from the VCTC site:

We are located at the confluence of the West River and the Connecticut River. Seven miles south of us on the Connecticut River is the Vernon Dam, which controls the water level and current. Most days, except after heavy rain, there is hardly any current, and paddling on both rivers is like being on a lake. On days when the Connecticut River has a strong current, the West River still offers peaceful paddling in a large protected area called the Retreat Meadows, which is a short paddle and is protected and calm.
