Out of towner visiting and looking for desert hike

I'll be in the area from 3/10 to 3/16 and wondered if any of you know of any planned day or overnight hikes in some scenic desert areas. I'm checking out state parks, etc. but would like to find a gay or gay friendly group to hang with, plus gain the knowledge locals have so I don't waste my time on boring touristy stuff. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks, Brad
