Flags on the 48 Memorial Hike: Mt. Osceola

Each year, on or around September 11th, patriotic and impassioned hikers embark on a collective journey to raise American flags on all 48 of the 4,000+ foot summits in New Hampshire. This year, we chose our adopted mountain/trail, Mt. Osceola!

GayOutdoors the past few years has participated in this memorial hike to remember the thousands of lives taken violently and unexpectedly.

By demonstrating our steadfast unity in this challenging endeavor, we also hope to express our unwavering support to the families, friends and communities whose losses are beyond comprehension and whose suffering we remember in our hearts.

The past 4,000 footers we have raised the flag on are:

  • North Twin, 2013
  • Mt. Eisenhower, 2012
  • Mt. Pierce, 2011
  • Mt. Tecumseh, 2010
  • South Twin, 2009 & 2008
  • North Tripyramid, 2007

Patriotic emotions fills one heart when you gaze at all the flags flying from each summit.

The flag flies for two hours: noon until 2:00pm and many hikers climb up the summits on this day to participate in this memorial.

Once we are at the summit you will have the option to relax, explore around, or even help some of us who may be doing some light trail brushing between the two peaks of the Osceolas.  The Mount Osceola Trail has been the adopted trail by GayOutdoors for several years.

Afterwards, we head to the GO Center for comraderie, drinks and dinner.
