Summary

Join me for a 9.8 mile hike across most of the Wildcat Ridge.  Hiking the Wildcats in the winter provides for amazing views (on a clear day) across the valley to the Presidential Range as well as the Carter Range to the North.  As we will be using the Polecat Ski Trail from the resort, uphill access is somewhat easier.  Once at the summit of Wildcat D (4062'), we will traverse across Peaks B and C on the way to Wildcat Mtn (4422')...and back again.  NOTE:  A $10 Uphill Access (Non-Lift) Ticket will be required.

Total Distance and Elevation Gain:  9.8 miles with approximately 3170 feet in cumulative elevation gain.

Total Time:  8.0 hours depending on breaks and group's speed...and snow depth!

Harsh weather may postpone to another date or cancel, as appropriate.

What to Bring:  Snowshoes are REQUIRED and will be adequate for the entire hike (NO additional traction will be needed).  Wear warm layered clothing suitable for the exposed ledge(s) and summit(s)...no cotton or blue jeans.  You should also have insulated boots and gloves suitable for the season.  Additionally, consider bringing goggles, face protection, hand warmers and a headlamp/flashlight.  Bring along plenty of water (at least 2 liters), lunch, snacks and anything else you may require for a day hike.   NOTE:  You will be required to purchase an Uphill Access (Non-Lift) Ticket.  This will be $10.

Carpooling:  Contact other participants or the trip leader to arrange for a rideshare to the trailhead.

Afterwards:  If there is sufficient interest, we can grab dinner/drinks at the Red Fox Bar and Grille in Jackson...or someplace to be determined in Gorham.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

From GORHAM (at the intersection with Rt. 2):  Follow Rt. 16 south for 9.7 miles.

Allow for 2:15 hours from Concord via 93/3/302 or 93/3/2.

MEETING SPOT:  Park as directed by the attendants and we will meet up at the ticket counter inside the main building.

For GPS Users:  Wildcat Ski Resort; 542 NH Route 16; Jackson, NH 03846  (44.264889, -71.240345).
