Summary

Cherry Springs State Park exists largely to provide an exceptional viewing site for star gazing. An almost total abscence of light allows the eye to see the night sky as you've probably never seen it before. Sept 20th is an exceptional night as the moon sets before sunset and is absent from the night sky. There is also a presentation about the night sky this evening at the park. Note: it is cold up there so bring warm clothes, blankets and a lounge chair if you don't want to lay on the ground. You're welcome to join us and you might want to ask other participants if they want to share a room. Because this activity depends on a clear sky, I've planned a separate activity in the area earlier in the day which is not weather sensitive. Sign up for the Penn's Cave activity if you can make it.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Use GPS or Google Maps to find: Cherry Springs State Park Galeton PA 16922. Meet at the park sponsored program at 9PM. Cell phones do not work well in this area so try to be on time. The park is South of Route 6 between Galeton and Coudersport.
